There were signs of the St. Croix River flooding in Stillwater on Sunday.

KSTP Photographer Jim O'Connell was on his day off when he came across flooding at the St. Croix Riverwalk in downtown.

The National Weather Service originally said chances of flooding this spring and summer season would be low.

Last week, the NSW changed its prediction to say there would be a 65 percent chance of the St. Croix River flooding in Stillwater.

It is hard to predict flooding, as much of it is based on precipitation events, according to the NWS. This year, soil moisture is high, along with the base flow of rivers in Minnesota, the NWS said.

Crews had already placed sandbags along the riverbanks of the swollen river.

The NWS maintains the overall flooding for the state's water bodies is below average for early summer.
