Minnesota Twins first baseman Joe Mauer has been named Major League Baseball's 2014 All-Star Ambassador, the team said Thursday.
Former Twins players Bert Blyleven, Rod Carew, Paul Molitor, and Tony Oliva were named spokespeople for the T-Mobile All-Star FanFest, which will be held at the Minneapolis Convention Center during the week leading up to the All-Star Game at Target Field.
"It's exciting that this year's All-Star events will be held in the Twin Cities and I'm proud to be a part of it all," Mauer said. "Our fans are incredible and they are going to be treated to a week of baseball events and activities that they will never forget."
Mauer, Blyleven, Carew, Molitor, and Oliva will help generate awareness of each event during the week, including the home run derby, legends and celebrity softball game, future game, and FanFest.
The 85th MLB All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday, July 15.
