The new Vikings stadium is starting to take shape. The first deck was poured Friday, forming part of the ceiling or “lid” of the loading dock.

The 277 cubic yards of concrete poured is the first horizontal concrete in the new stadium, according to the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority.

Other construction milestones in the next few weeks:

• The final pieces of Metrodome walls that are below grade on the west side of site will be demolished

• A part of the main concourse and other deck levels will be poured

• A third tower crane will be erected

• Elevator pits will be excavated

Construction on the new Multi-Purpose Stadium is on schedule and will open in July 2016. The new stadium will host Vikings football games as well as baseball, soccer, concerts and a variety of community and civic events.
