The Coast Guard says the USCGC Morrow Bay will be undergoing repairs in Duluth after suffering a rudder casualty while breaking ice near Thundery Bay.

The 140-foot cutter was towed into Duluth's port last week. It is scheduled to be repaired by an in-water repair on Monday, officials tell KSTP sister station WDIO

Divers and engineers discovered five out of six bolts that held the rudder in place were lost, but have not discovered exactly what caused the damage.

"If repairs go as expected, the cutter crew expects to be back underway immediately to resume ice breaking on the Great Lakes," said a statement from Ninth Coast Guard District.
