A 29-year-old Apple Valley woman was charged Wednesday in a deadly crash that occurred last April.
Amanda Schlachter was charged with one count of criminal vehicular homicide and three counts of criminal vehicular operation in the crash, which resulted in the death of James Sundboom.
According to the Dakota County Attorney's Office, Apple Valley Police responded to the crash April 6, 2013 on Garden View Road.
Schlachter, who was an employee of a group home, was driving clients in a Dodge minivan. According to the criminal complaint, Schlachter ran a red light while she was dialing to make a call on her cellphone. She hit another vehicle which caused the minivan to roll onto its side. It then collided with a third vehicle.
Sundboom, who was a passenger in the minivan, was seriously injured and taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he later died.
Schlachter along with two men and a woman who were in the minivan were seriously injured, while another man received minor injuries.
Schlachter will have her first court appearance in May.
