The Third Avenue Bridge in Minneapolis was closed Sunday until 4 p.m. while crews filmed the bridge for a production project.

A detour sign was in place and traffic control agents were on-site to direct vehicles away from the structure that connects Central Avenue to the north and downtown Minneapolis, the Minneapolis Police Department said on their Facebook page.

Police said the crew was filming a simulation of a bridge collapse. Look here for more information on the film, "The Public Domain."

The I-35 bridge in Minneapolis collapsed in August of 2007. The 8-lane structure suddenly buckled on a muggy evening, sending dozens of vehicles crashing into the Mississippi River and each other, and stirring ripples of worry about the nation's aging infrastructure. Investigators blamed a design flaw that was exacerbated by extra weight from a resurfacing project.

Video from Chopper 5 shows the wreckage of the I-35W bridge in the minutes after the collapse.

The closure began at 8 a.m., police said.

Crews film on the Third Avenue Bridge in Minneapolis around 11 a.m. on Sunday.
