Minneapolis city officials celebrated the first sale of a group of green homes Friday afternoon.

The event was held at one of the energy efficient homes at 3858 Sheridan Ave. in north Minneapolis, a part of the Green Homes North development. Robert Smith, a music professor at St. Olaf College and the new homeowner, purchased the home in December.

The two other homes that have been sold are located in the Hawthorne EcoVillage on 31st Avenue.

The three-bedroom homes in the Green Homes North community are priced between $150,000 and $210,000.

The Green Homes North initiative was put in place to rebuild neighborhoods impacted by the foreclosure crisis and 2011 tornado, the city said.

The City of Eden Prairie proposed a green living community.
