Although the past week has felt more like winter than spring, there are signs that warmer weather is on the way.

Both the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul are lifting their winter parking restrictions.

The restrictions were put in place Feb. 23 after the snowy season narrowed streets, making it difficult for emergency vehicles to navigate the roads.

With temperatures warming, the cities have decided that the snow has melted enough to lift the parking restrictions.

Both St. Paul and Minneapolis will lift their winter parking restrictions at 10 a.m. Thursday.

The City of St. Paul says despite the ban being lifted, some parking restrictions will remain in effect on streets that remain too narrow to allow for parking on both sides of the street. There will be temporary "no parking" signs posted on those streets.

Minneapolis says there will be a transition period of about a week where temporary "no parking" signs were posted. The signs will be removed or replaced. The city says drivers should follow the rules of the signs while they are in place.

Minneapolis is reminding residents that although the winter parking restrictions are lifted, there could still be snow emergencies issued this season pending on the weather.
