Former Gophers wide receiver Derrick Engel (Chaska HS) is recovering from a torn right ACL suffered in November and is hoping to latch on with an NFL team after the draft.
Engel's money attribute is his speed. He says he can run a 4.4 second 40-yard dash when healthy. NFL teams do have interest in bringing him in for a workout once fully recovered, and his hope is that some team will have enough interest in signing him to a mini-camp or even a training camp contract. He just wants a shot to prove himself.
KSTP's Darren Wolfson recently spent time with Engel, as he is now approximately 17 weeks into his recovery. He had surgery Dec. 3.
