Maplewood Police say an 84-year-old man fatally shot his 36-year-old son at a Maplewood home Monday before he barricaded himself inside, leading to a standoff with police.
According to authorities, Pang Vang shot his son, Chue Vang, in the head at Chue Vang's house, located at 1860 County Road B, while Chue Vang's mother, brother and a child were inside.
Police said it started with an argument between the father and son that turned violent, leading someone inside the house to call police around 11:50 a.m.
Police said Pang Vang let the three hostages out of the house when officers arrived.
The Ramsey County SWAT team assisted police because it was believed there were other guns inside the home, police said.
Pang Vang remained inside the home until around 2 p.m. and was then taken to Regions Hospital with several knife wounds to his chest and neck after surrendering.
Authorities said they believe the knife wounds were self-inflicted and that Pang Vang was conscious when he left the residence. As of Monday evening, Pang Vang remained hospitalized in critical condition.
No further information has been released at this time.
