Two men were charged Tuesday in the robbery and beating of a man in the locker room of an Eden Prairie fitness center, according to the Hennepin County Attorney.
Dalal Idd, 18, of Eden Prairie and Kamal Maqadin, 26, of Shakopee were charged with first-degree robbery.
Idd also was charged with third-degree assault. Additional charges were filed late Tuesday against Idd for another incident. Those include burglary and assault. Bail of $500,000 was requested for Idd and $250,000 for Maqadin.
About 5:50 p.m. Sunday, Eden Prairie police responded to a 911 call reporting an assault and robbery at Life Time Fitness, located at 6233 Baker Road.
According to the criminal complaint, the two men went into the Life Time Fitness locker room Sunday afternoon and Idd repeatedly punched the victim before taking his wallet and running. A witness was able to get the license number of the car they drove. Eventually, police arrested both men at an apartment.
Police interviewed the men and Idd admitted to punching the man five or six times in the face and then taking the wallet and cellphone and handing the wallet to Maqadin. Maqadin admitted to taking the wallet, the complaint states.
The men are expected to make a first appearance in court Wednesday in that incident.
The two men are also believed to be responsible for an assault and burglary that happened at a residence on the 8000 block of Grier Lane about an hour after the assault in the gym locker room. In this incident, a man was approached inside the entrance to his home by someone believed to be unknown to him, police said. He was also assaulted, police said.
