In this week's edition of At Issue, host Tom Hauser takes an in-depth look at the local political issues that affect you.
This week, the Minnesota House passed a $500 million tax cut package in a nearly unanimous 126-2 vote. The bill will move to the Senate, and Gov. Dayton has already said he wants the bill on his desk by Friday so that the money can make it back into the hands of Minnesotans. Some of the tax cuts will go toward low income families and day care. Business-to-business taxes set to go into effect in April were repealed.
A proposal that would legalize Sunday liquor sales in Minnesota now has bipartisan co-sponsorship. Lawmakers have also proposed a broader approach to the bill that ranges from a full repeal of the Sunday liquor sales ban to giving cities control.
The medical marijuana debate has intensified at the Capitol as the topic moves through committee and among citizens, law enforcement and medical professionals. While legalizing medical marijuana still has considerable progress to make, law enforcement officials have said they're opposed and many medical professionals remain split on the issue.
In Political Analysis, Annette Meeks, CEO of the Freedom Foundation of Minnesota, and Matt Entenza, former House minority leader, joined Tom Hauser in the studio.
In Face Off, Javier Morillo, president of the Service Employees International Union, and Meeks debated the political issues of the week.
