Heads up for drivers this weekend who are traveling in St. Paul -- a major road construction project will make getting around St. Paul tricky this weekend.
There is be no travel allowed on a stretch of Interstate 35E near Maryland Ave.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation closed I-35E in both directions between Interstate 94 and Highway 36 starting at 10 p.m. Friday. The closures will affect drivers who use I-35E just north of downtown St. Paul. Any and all ramps between Highway 36 and Little Canada will also close for the weekend, which is about a 5 1/2 mile stretch of road.
The closure is needed for removal of the Arlington Avenue and Wheelock Parkway bridges spanning I-35E. They will be replaced as part of the MnPASS project.
The bridges closed about 5 p.m. Friday and remain closed through early May.
You can also expect delays on 35E between Maryland Ave. and Highway 36 with lane closures. The left lane of both directions of I-35E will be closed from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. Mondays through Saturdays for several weeks, beginning March 10.
