North Dakota University System officials say they are working with the FBI and an independent cybersecurity group to investigate a breach on the system's computer server.

Officials say the personal information of more than 290,000 current and former students and nearly 800 faculty and staff was hacked in early February. It's not known if the data, which included social security numbers, was stolen.

University system spokesman Darin King said Thursday he expects the results of the investigation to be known "shortly." He says there's no evidence that the information was accessed.

FBI spokesman Kyle Loven says his office has talked with university system officials and will become more involved if needed.

King says the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center and local law enforcement are aiding with the investigation.
