The Minnesota Boys' State Hockey Tournament has provided countless memorable moments over the years. This year, we will add another chapter with a legendary voice calling the action. Gary Thorne, who has covered Stanley Cup Finals, college hockey championships and NHL games, will provide the play-by-play for Class AA hockey this week at the Xcel Energy Center.

“It’s a magical moment for the state,” he said during a conference call with reporters Monday morning.

This is Thorne's first time at the State Tournament. He gave up broadcasting spring training games for the Baltimore Orioles to be here. He will partner with Prep45's Lou Nanne to call the Class AA games Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

“We had talked about this before, and this time it worked out,” he said. “They asked and I was available.”
