A new poll out overnight shows that support for gay marriage is now at an all-time high.
Same-sex marriage had enough support to pass in Minnesota, but the poll by ABC News and the Washington Post shows a big shift in opinion all across the country.
The poll found that 59 percent of Americans now support same-sex marriage with just 34 percent opposing it. The numbers have essentially flip-flopped from 10 years ago when a similar poll was conducted.
Also, the poll asked Americans if they think the constitution – specifically the part referencing equal protection under the law – gives gays and lesbians the right to marry. About 50 percent said yes, and 41 percent disagreed.
About 81 percent said businesses should not be allowed to refuse service to gays and lesbians based on religious beliefs. Just last week, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer vetoed a controversial bill that would have allowed businesses the right to refuse service to customers based on sincerely-held religious beliefs.
