Construction at the Minnesota State Capitol caused confusion Tuesday, on the first day of the legislative session.

A $270 million project is under way to upgrade the inside and outside of the century old building.

New signs have been placed in the basement of the building to help direct people around. "I feel like a rat in a maze, because every time I come over here it seems like the plywood is moved and I'm not sure exactly which way to turn to find the cheese." said Rep. Paul Torkelson.

The construction project is expected to last until December 2016.
