Wednesday was a big day for some of the world's bravest and craziest athletes in the metro.

The Red Bull Crashed Ice competition kicks off in St. Paul, but before then the track needed some testing.

Mayor Chris Coleman joined several local hockey players from around the Twin Cities in giving the course a "crash test" of sorts, before the pros take to the track. They stayed on a pretty tame portion of the course, not far from the finish line where there are no huge jumps or turns.

This is Coleman’s third time trying out the Crashed Ice track and he says he's gotten better each year. Coleman said he is thrilled the event is coming back to St. Paul.

It took crews four weeks to build the 430-meter track near the Cathedral of St. Paul.
