As we make our way through this bitter cold winter, spring is just around the corner, which means it's time to start thinking about gardening.
The city of Minneapolis is encouraging nonprofit groups to lease community gardens. Officials say three of the community garden lots are not appropriate for development, which means the gardens will be around for years to come. There are another 29 community garden lots in North Minneapolis available for one-year leases.
The city says lots are available on a first-come, first-served basis to qualifying groups, which include nonprofit groups or a group with a nonprofit sponsor.
Thirteen city lots are already leased to community groups.
