The deadly rise in heroin use in Hennepin County was at the center of a conversation with Minnesota officials Sunday afternoon.
Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek and Senator Amy Klobuchar hosted a roundtable on the issue Sunday at Hazelden Center for Youth and Families in Plymouth.
Stanek focused on ways to prevent abuse including proper disposal of prescription medications and new laws. Sen. Klobuchar has asked the Drug Enforcement Agency to focus on the spike in heroin use.
The Sheriff's Office says 56 people died from heroin last year in Hennepin County, which is the most ever recorded.
So far this year, there have been four heroin related deaths in Hennepin County.
