A sprinkler mandate in new home construction in Minnesota is one step closer to reality.

A judge ruled the state has the authority to impose the requirement. Fire experts say in home sprinklers save lives.

Builders say they'll burden home buyers by making homes more expensive.

The requirement would only apply to homes larger than 4,500 square feet, but opponents fear it's the first step toward requiring sprinkler systems in all new homes
