A woman who died after being pulled from a house fire in Columbia Heights has been identified.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner says 53-year-old Wendy Mady died of smoke inhalation and thermal injuries after her house caught on fire Tuesday night.

The fire broke out on the 1000 block of 44 ½ Avenue Northeast just before 9 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, they said they heard screams for help from somewhere inside the home. Firefighters said Mady was found unconscious in the bathroom.

Firefighters risked their lives to rescue her. She was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center where she died Wednesday morning.

Three other people made it out of the building safely.
