One of my favorite shows growing up as a kid was “Sesame Street.”   I would watch it three times a day and loved every minute of it.

I really enjoyed the puppets, the cartoons, songs,  and everything else about the show.

Now, as a parent, I still enjoy “Sesame Street” as much as I did as a kid.  I have introduced my daughters to it, and they really like it also.  However, I don’t let them watch it three times a day like I did growing up.

This past weekend, my wife and I took my daughters to Sesame Street Live “Make a New Friend” at the Target Center in Minneapolis.

I would have to say that this was one of the most entertaining shows I have seen with my kids.  I really thought the music and songs were great and everyone around me was enjoying them as well.  Kids were dancing and singing along.  Plus the show had a great message.

Everything was very well choreographed, and it is amazing how talented the dancers/actors were.  I don’t know how they were able to dance in the costumes.

The songs were great.  There were a lot of new songs that I had never heard before and some really clever parodies of popular songs such as “Moves Like Jagger” and “I Want Candy.”

One really cool thing was that there were so many characters in the show like, Big Bird, Grover, Oscar, Telly, Bert, Ernie, The Count, Cookie Monster, Rosita, Abby, Honker and Elmo.

The characters would also come out into the audience and dance and shake hands with the kids.  I thought that was great, and it made the show a more memorable experience.

I also thought the stage looked great, and I really liked how they had Hooper’s Store and the recognizable 123 staircase.  I was very impressed by how smoothly the set changes were done, and there were quite a few throughout the show.

The story was great, and like I said earlier,  it had a great message.  Grover learns that his friend named Chamki who is from India is coming to Sesame Street to visit.  Grover had a huge list of things that he wanted to do with Chamki when she came.  He wanted to spend time with her by himself, but when Chamki came to visit, everyone at Sesame Street wanted to play with her.  Grover was really sad, but Chamki explains to Grover that he shouldn’t be sad because he did get to spend time with her even though it was with other people.

This past summer I got the chance to talk to Cheryl Baxter who is the choreographer and director for Sesame Street Live.  I also talked to Joy Carlson who is the performance director for Sesame Street Live.

I really enjoyed Sesame Street Live “Make a New Friend” a lot.  It was very entertaining and it is a great experience for the entire family.  Kids will have a blast dancing and singing along with their favorite Sesame Street characters.
