Each year, the St. Paul Winter Carnival showcases the carving talent of teams who, starting Thursday, will compete for up to 30 and 48 hours for the best ice sculpture.
Four-member carving teams kicked off 48 hours of competition Thursday by beginning to shape 20 blocks of pre-packed blocks of ice.
Three-member teams will be challenged to create art in 30 hours using pre-packed blocks of snow starting Friday. The single block competition is on Sunday.
