It was another slow ride on the roads Wednesday as snow fell across the metro for the evening commute. It's expected to be another slow drive Thursday morning with blowing and drifting snow.

KSTP.com Meteorologist Ken Barlow said a very strong storm will move across northern Minnesota, producing strong winds and sharply falling temperatures.

A blizzard warning has been issued for western Minnesota, with a winter weather advisory for Central and Eastern Minnesota--including most of the metro.

Winds could gust as high as 60 mph over western Minnesota, with gusts over 40 mph in the eastern part of the state.

Blowing and drifting snow will start by early Thursday morning, causing very difficult travel over a large part of the state.

Both Minneapolis and St. Paul declared snow emergencies after Tuesday's snow. In St. Paul there were 2,240 tickets issued and 656 vehicles towed.

Minneapolis towed 391 vehicles on the first day and 457 on the second day of its snow emergency.
