The majority of Wisconsin is under a winter storm warning as a band of heavy snow begins its descent on the Badger State.
Strong winds are expected to whip up the snow and make travel difficult. The National Weather Service says near white-out conditions are possible in open areas through Wednesday morning.
Snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches are forecast in northeastern Wisconsin by Tuesday evening, with up to 9 inches expected in central Wisconsin. Five to 7 inches of snow could accumulate in Black River Falls, Mauston and Neillsville.
Freedom Area and Seymour schools are among those closed Tuesday.
