At Issue: MNsure Problems, State Rep. Involved in Dispute

In this week's edition of At Issue, host Tom Hauser takes an in-depth look at the local political issues that affect you.

The week brought another round of issues related to the online health care exchange. The state auditor is launching an audit of MNsure, and the problem-riddled call center has prompted talk of outsourcing it.

MNsure officials said changes are on the way with increased paper processing capabilities, call-center outsourcing and a review of operations. Enrollment had reached nearly 72,000 by Sunday, and MNsure hopes to get 300,000 enrolled by the end of 2014.

An advisory panel recommended that Capitol visitors show a handgun permit when entering and renew authority notification every five years. The group also said it wants more security guards at the Capitol. The legislature still needs to approve the proposal.

Lt. Gov. Yvonne Prettner Solon said she will meet with Gov. Dayton Monday and announce whether she will share the ballot with Dayton in the upcoming election.

The Republican House Minority Leader explained this week how he ended up in handcuffs after a car-buying dispute. Court documents say that in a recent trip to Montana, Rep. Kurt Daudt and a friend got into an argument over the sale and a gun was involved. Daudt said he was simply a witness and was not arrested, but that he does own the gun his friend produced.

The City of Minneapolis swore in Mayor Betsy Hodges and new city council members this week in a ceremony at the Minneapolis City Hall.

In Political Analysis and Face off, Republican strategist Sarah Janece, former DFL state senator Don Betzold, and Annette Meeks. CEO of the Freedom Foundation of Minnesota joined Tom Hauser to break down the political issues of the week.

Mark Allison of the Bob Allison Ataxia Research Center and Pat Borzi of Minnpost.com joined Tom Hauser in the studio to talk about the upcoming Minnesota Twins Diamond Awards that honor baseball players and raise money for ataxia research.
