A 50-game suspension has been leveled on Twins prospect Eddie Roasrio ion response to a violation of baseball's drug policy.

The suspension, which Rosario was initially notified of back in November, was officailly announced by the Commissioner's office in a release Saturday afternoon.

The release is as follows:

"The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced today that Minnesota Twins Minor League second baseman Eddie Rosario has received a 50-game suspension without pay after a second positive test for a drug of abuse in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

The suspension of Rosario, who is currently on the roster of Double-A New Britain Rock Cats of the Eastern League, will be effective at the start of the 2014 season."

The initial report claimed Rosario told his Puerto Rican Winter League manager the test failure was a result of pain medication he had taken.

Rosario has played both second base and outfield as he's climbed the Twins minor league ranks.

Last season, Rosario was rated the 7th-best prospect in the Twins system.  He finished the season at Double-A New Britain where he hit for a .284 average.
