Just because there’s no school doesn’t mean some high schoolers are getting a break from hockey this week.

The Schwan Cup High School Hockey Tournament starts Thursday. Boys and girls high school teams play in the tournament as well as youth teams; more than 100 teams will play about 200 games over the next week.

The boys' tournament is Dec. 26-28 and the girls' tournament is Dec. 30 to Jan. 1.

The top boys gold division will be playing Thursday and Friday at Ridder Arena on the U of M campus, and the other three boys divisions will play at the Schwan Super Rink at the National Sports Center in Blaine. All of the boys championship games will be at Ridder Arena on Dec. 28.

The three girls divisions will play at the Schwan Super Rink, and the girls’ championship games are Jan. 1.

The Schwan Super Rink is the largest ice arena of its kind in the world, featuring eight sheets of ice under one roof.
