ND Boy to Return Home After Brain Surgery to Remove Shotgun Pellet

A North Dakota boy is ready to return home after undergoing surgery to remove a shotgun pellet from his brain, according to the hospital.

The 14-year-old boy was shot through the eye while pheasant hunting with his dad and friends earlier this season. The pellet became lodged in his brain and he lost feeling on one side of his body.

The boy underwent a delicate brain surgery performed by Dr. Eric Nussbaum, neurosurgeon at the John Nasseff Neuroscience Institute of United Hospital in St. Paul.

Doctors at United and Gillette Children's Hospital teamed up to preform an operation that sewed together tiny blood vessels in the brain so blood could flow where the pellet was.
