The holiday season is now officially underway in St. Paul as the tree was lit this evening at Rice Park.
The blue spruce, towering at 65 feet tall and 25 feet wide is covered in 15,000 lights and sits at the Landmark Plaza, adjacent to Rice Park in downtown St. Paul.
KSTP's Dave Dahl was the Master of Ceremonies.
The celebration also included a free open skate and skate rental, skating demonstrations by the St. Paul Figure Skating Club and a concert.
Rice Park powered by Xcel Energy has partnered with Make-A-Wish Foundation of Minnesota and their Season of Wishes campaign. Granting a child's wish at the holidays is what makes this season magical. And for a child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition, no wish is too big or too small.

Sam’s one true wish is to have a play-set for his backyard. He looks forward to many happy backyard adventures on his planet.
