Jeep Crashes into Tree, Killing 81-Year-Old Monticello Man

A Monticello man was killed when his Jeep went into a ditch and hit a tree Tuesday.

The Wright County Sheriff’s Office was called to 127th Street Northeast and 120th Street Northeast in Monticello Township at 1:53 p.m. Officials say the 2004 Jeep Wrangler left the road and hit a tree, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was identified as 81-year-old William Charles Papke.

The crash is under investigation by the Wright County Sheriff’s Office and the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.
