Some Minnesotans are helping with the relief effort in the Philippines in the aftermath of the typhoon.

As many as 10,000 people could be dead. Homes and businesses are destroyed. Nearly the entire city of Tacloban is gone.

More aid is on the way form the United Nations and groups like World Vision and Minnesota based American Refugee Committee (ARC).

KSTP spoke with ARC as they get ready to send a team to the Philippines by Tuesday.

President Daniel Wordsworth says once they are on the ground, the UN is the lead agency.

"We work on things like proving clean water and sanitation, managing large camps of people who have had to gather because they have lost their homes, providing emergency health care," he said.

Wordsworth says their hearts and prayers go out to the families of the Philippines who have lost loved ones, their homes and all their belongings.
