The city of Brooklyn Park's crime rate is at a 20 year low.
Since 2010, there has been a steady decline in crime within the city. Looking at January to September, there were 229 violent crimes in 2010 compared to 184 this year.
But, city leaders say the facts aren't enough. They say the city has a bad rep, and they're tired of it. Now, they are spending big bucks to improve the city's image and reputation.
At a cost of $150,000 Brooklyn Park is hiring a public relations agency to develop a branding strategy to change hearts and minds.
It will focus on the city's success stories, including the lowest crime rate in two decades, more diversity, and new business.
Some council members voted against the plan saying it's a waste of money.
Other communities have recently hired public relations agencies, including the City Woodbury.
