Only in Minnesota: a school that revolves around hockey. Welcome to Northern Educate Academy in Vadnais Heights.
It started in 2011 with just seven students and has grown to 128 students at the flagship location. Now the program is poised to keep expanding.
Northern Educate is in the process of buying the Vadnais Sports Center so it can continue to grow.
The founder of the school told us that students split their school day: half of it is spent in the classroom, the other half is spent on the ice.
Even though students spend less time in the classroom, it doesn't mean they are learning less material. In fact, about a third of its students are a grade level above their age.
"If they don't have an 80 percent in their classes, they don't get to do their sport... and that gets their attention pretty quickly," says Kathy Black with Northern Educate.
Tuition for the hockey program is $13,000 a year, the goalie program is $15,500. They also teach other sports from lacrosse to dance.
