New documentary explores culture of pond hockey

Many Minnesotans first learn how to play the game of hockey on outdoor rinks, many of them set up in backyards and ponds. Kids spend many hours out on the ice, perfecting their skating, stick-handling, and passing skills. Three years ago, the city of Minneapolis hosted the first-ever U.S. Pond Hockey Championships. It has become a cultural phenomenon in Minnesota.

The start of the tournament and the love of the ice inspired Minnesota film director Tommy Haines to further explore the culture of pond hockey and how it's become engrained into Minnesotans' lives.

Haines joined us live on 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS Weekend Morning to talk about his new documentary entitled "Pond Hockey."
