A 58-year-old man is dead after he lost control of his vehicle, which went off the road and rolled over in a collection pond in Eagan.

Thomas Heinz Iwen of St. Paul died after the crash that happened around 7:33 a.m. Friday near near Clubview Drive and Lexington Avenue.

The Dakota County Sheriff's Office says Iwen was driving eastbound on Clubview when he lost control. The vehicle went off a 10-foot retaining wall and landed upside down in the pond.

Eagan firefighters extricated Iwen from the vehicle and he was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where he died. He was the only person in the vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation.
