It's now easier to report crimes, or leave a tip for Minneapolis Police.

Thursday, the department launched its new smartphone app.

The app sends information to police in real time. Users will remain anonymous, which police say is important in getting information that could solve crimes or save lives.

"There is no way we can go back and look at this tip. So we really are looking at the public trust thing here. That's why we really want to stress that this is anonymous," said Kris Arneson with the Minneapolis Police Department.

The app is available for both Android and iPhones. Just search MPD TIP to find it.
