Colder temperatures have brought the start of the ski and snowboard season.

Wild Mountain near Taylors Falls opened for the ski and snowboard season at 3 p.m. Tuesday. Crews had been making snow and officials said they would open with one terrain park, the Front Stage and a rope tow.

Wild Mountain officials say in 10 of the past 25 years the ski area has opened in October. Last year, Wild Mountain opened Oct. 7, making it the first ski area in North America to open for the 2012 season, they say. Opening later in 2010, Wild Mountain was the first ski area in North America to be 100 percent open on Nov. 27.

The ski area typically closes for the season the last weekend in March.

Wild Mountain will be open from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday. Hours for the rest of the week have not been announced yet.
