It’s getting cold out, which makes things even worse for the state's homeless population.

A study released last month by Wilder Research found around 3,500 children, with their parents, are homeless every night in Minnesota. Some even have to sleep outside.

Thursday night hundreds of teens are choosing to sleep outside at the state fair grounds. More than 400 students are using the day off school for fall break to raise money and awareness of Minnesota’s homeless population.

They are also raising money for two church-based programs that serve homeless parents and children.
The night out is also giving the teens perspective as they try to recreate the conditions the homeless deal with every night.
