Report: More Minnesotans are Overweight, Less are Smokers

There is new snapshot out on the health of Minnesotans, specifically relating to our state of smoking and obesity.

The Minnesota Department of Health says the number of overweight or obese Minnesotans jumped one percentage point between 2011 and 2012. It's now at 63 percent.

Slightly more men than women are categorized as having an unhealthy weight. The highest prevalence was in people ages 45 and up.

As for tobacco use, the number of current smokers dropped .1 percent from 2011 to 2012, down to 19 percent.
