Due to a lack of funding, the St. Paul based Big Brothers, Big Sisters program will stop service in eight Minnesota counties.

Anoka, Carver, Chisago, Goodhue, McLeod, Scott, Sherburne and Wright counties are losing service this month.

The non-profit says approximately 600 children will not be matched with mentors due to cutbacks.

Gloria Lewis, the Chief Executive of Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities, said corporate and foundation donations have fallen off.

She also said a federal grant, which covered the costs associated with mentoring children whose parents are in prison, was eliminated.

Lewis says Minnesota is one of the most philanthropic states in the country and is asking generous Minnesotans to step up and help.
