Gov. Mark Dayton will host the third annual Governor’s Pheasant Opener in Madelia, Minn., this weekend.

Dayton will be traveling to the southern Minnesota city Friday. He will be joined by Madelia Mayor Mike Grote, Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Tom Landwehr, Explore Minnesota Tourism Director John Edman, local officials, and Madelia community members.

Minnesota veterans will also be joining the Governor’s Pheasant Opener this weekend as part of a special hunt with the Wounded Warriors Guide Service.

Other events this weekend in conjunction with the opener include a community banquet, a free concert with Martin Zellar and the Hardways, a pancake breakfast, a shooting tournament, the dedication of a veterans memorial for MIA Madelia-area service members, and the dedication of new public lands for hunting.

Dayton says he has participated in Minnesota pheasant hunting for more than 50 years. Previous openers have been held in Montevideo and Marshall during Dayton’s term.
