Mpls. Police Ask Public for Help in Homicide Investigation

Minneapolis police are investigating the death of a man, whose body was found along Nicollet Avenue South.

Police responded to a 911 call around 8 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, in the 2600 block of Nicollet Avenue South. The body of the man, who has been identified as 58-year-old Michael Duane Portlance, was lying on the ground near a fence, according to Minneapolis police.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the death a homicide. The police homicide unit is investigating the case. There are no suspects at this time, and the motive is unknown, police stated.

Investigators are looking for any information about the whereabouts of Portlance in the days and hours before his death. They're also looking for information about his acquaintances and recent roommates.

Portlance is known as "Sonny."
