The City of St. Paul and Visit St. Paul are looking for an 80-foot evergreen tree to serve as the center of the Rice Park downtown holiday festivities this winter.

The tree, which will be lit with more than 20,000 energy-efficient LED lights, will be part of a “Rockefeller Center experience” in downtown St. Paul’s Rice Park. The tree will be the largest on display in the Midwest.

Making its debut at the annual tree lighting event at 5 p.m. on Nov. 30, the tree will be the centerpiece for a holiday season in Rice Park that will also feature entertainment, fireworks and ice-skating.

Only trees that have overgrown their location or otherwise need to be removed will be considered. People who want to donate their tree should email their address and a photo to or call 651-228-1664. If chosen, the tree and stump will be removed for free and the tree owner may be eligible for a tax deduction.

The Rice Park powered by Xcel Energy tree will be picked by Oct. 15 and installed in Rice Park by Nov. 11.
