If you are about to tackle a remodeling project, you might find out that parts of your home aren't up to code. Experts say fixing the problems is important for safety and resale value.
Codes are set to protect the customer. Angie Hicks of Angie's List says if you ignore code violations in your home it could cost you financially and legally.
She says if you are trying to sell your home code violations will likely come up in an inspection and can be a deal breaker for a buyer.
"If you have a code violation and are unsure if you really do, don't hesitate to get a second opinion," said Hicks.
