Democrats on a panel that oversees Minnesota's new online health insurance marketplace tore into its leaders with charges they are failing to reach out to minority communities with high numbers of uninsured people.

Sen. Jeff Hayden of Minneapolis says leaders behind the marketplace known as MNsure "blew it." He and other lawmakers dressed them down at a Tuesday afternoon hearing of the MNsure Oversight Committee.

Groups that advocate for minority communities complain they were mostly left out in an initial round of $4 million in MNsure grants to 30 groups that are supposed to the help uninsured and underinsured people navigate the new online marketplace.

MNsure's board chair and executive director say they have made efforts to reach minority groups and will continue to do so.
