An Alabama man ended up in jail this week after riding his bicycle along I-90 in Nobles County, after three different troopers told him not to in less than two hours, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Merhawi Gebre, 29, was first stopped on his way to Worthington at 4 p.m. and issued a warning Wednesday.
He was stopped 40 minutes later and given a ticket for operating a non-motorized vehicle on a highway.
A third trooper stopped the bicyclist and took him to jail for failure to obey a lawful order and operating a non-motorized vehicle on a highway.
Each year in Minnesota, approximately 30 pedestrians and 10 bicyclists are killed as a result of collisions with motor vehicles, according to the state patrol.
About one-half of all bicycle-vehicle collisions are due to a variety of bicyclist behaviors, such as disregarding a traffic sign or signal.
