While much of the NBA has started to play small ball, the Minnesota Timberwolves are going big.

In giving center Nikola Pekovic a five-year deal that could be worth more than $60 million with incentives, the Timberwolves are bucking a trend that has started to take over the league. With traditional centers harder to find, many teams are playing small with power forwards at center.

Timberwolves president of basketball operations Flip Saunders says the only reason teams play small these days is because big men are so hard to find. Saunders calls Pekovic one of the top three low-post centers in the league.

Pekovic says he always wanted to stay in Minnesota, where he started his career three seasons ago. He says his goal is to play all 82 games.
