Emerald Ash Borer Found in Superior

Emerald ash borer has been found in Superior, the most northern location in Wisconsin yet.

Members of a Superior city street crew were removing a dead tree from a boulevard last week when they found signs of emerald ash borer infestation. The U.S. Department of Agriculture confirmed this week that the insects are emerald ash borers.

The Superior discovery is far from other infestations. Trempealeau County is the next nearest Wisconsin county where emerald ash borer has been found.

Douglas County, where Superior is located, will be quarantined. The quarantine prohibits ash wood products and hardwood firewood from being moved out of the county to areas that are not infested.

The tree-killing pest was first found in Wisconsin in 2008. Douglas County will join 19 other Wisconsin counties under quarantine.
